Editorial
The ICCS Portland meeting was a great success. Attendance was at a record 435 participants for the meeting and 164 for the preceding course. I’m sure those of you who attended would agree that there was a vibrant atmosphere. |

ICCS Portland Plenary Session II: Optimization of Multicolor Immunophenotyping Assays: Critical Components and Practical Guidelines. Chairs: Andrea Illingworth and Rob Sutherland This session included tips for anyone currently offering, considering introducing, a flow cytometric assay for paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria or an 8 – 10 color protocol for leukemia and lymphoma… Paul Wallace.

ICCS Portland Plenary Session III: International Focus. Chair: Mariela Monreal The theme for the afternoon plenary session on Monday (October 17th 2011) was “international focus”. The session was chaired by Dr. Mariela Monreal, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Four international speakers presented their work related to the use of flow cytometry in diverse areas of hematological and lymphoid abnormalities… Anand Lagoo.

ICCS Portland Plenary Session IV: Hematopathology. Chair: Joe DiGiuseppe This session provided four exciting presentations that all pushed forward the frontiers of flow cytometry and hematopathology. With their presentations, Dr. Goolsby and Dr. Irish highlighted the utility of new strategies for thinking about neoplasms including AML and lymphoma by using response to a stimulus to identify neoplastic cells or predict disease course. Dr. Campana described the discovery process involved in identification of novel markers to improve MRD detection in ALL and Dr. Head challenged our traditional view of MDS… Sindhu Cherian. |
ICCS Portland Plenary Session V: Translational Medicine. Chair: Virginia Litwin, PhD The ICCS Portland Translational Medicine plenary session gave a good overview of the types of flow cytometric assays used in translational medicine. Although several of the techniques described resemble those currently used in clinical laboratories, others are less well established, but all procedures require rigorous validation before they can be implemented in clinical trials… Fiona Craig |
