Specialist Technologist- full time- variable shift.  


JOB SUMMARY:  Provides direct line supervision to professional/technical staff in one or more specialty section.  Performs and analyzes testing on blood, body fluids and tissue in compliance with defined section policies and practices to assure the highest level of patient care.  Follows age specific guidelines.



EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:


Baccalaureate Degree plus two years clinical lab experience




LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION:


MT(ASCP) or Equivalent Certification Required.


Speciality Certification preferred


Flow Cytometry experience required.


 



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


Assures accurate and timely performance of patient procedures and/or issuance of blood products.


Assures accurate and timely performance of results reporting, QC and QA procedures according to departmental policy.


Follows proper safety and identification procedures when dealing with patients and/or specimens under any circumstance or environment.


Performs delegated supervisory responsibilities in the sub-section/shift.


Collaborates with Manager in preparation of procedure manuals and implementation of new procedures.


Assists in the training of new personnel and Medical Technology students.


Improves work skills through self-study and continuing education.


Contributes to the smooth and efficient operation of the section and department.


Protects self, coworkers and facility by following approved policies and procedures to prevent the spread of bloodborne and/or airborne diseases.


Exhibits and promotes the professional image of laboratories in accordance with hospital, department, and professional society philosophies, goals and standards of laboratory testing.


Provides age appropriate specimen collection in accordance with age specific guidelines for school age, adolescents, early adults, middle adults and/or late adults.




SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:


Ability to listen and communicate effectively.


Technical ability and interest.


Computer and keyboard skills preferred.


Ability to work cooperatively.


May require working any shift in a 24 hour period, 7 days/week including holidays and possibly taking call.
