Director of the Clinical Flow Cytometry Laboratory Service
New York, NY -- The Department of Pathology, Molecular and Cell Based Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine is seeking a full-time Director (Technical) of the Clinical Flow Cytometry Laboratory Service at the level of Assistant/Associate Professor.The Director manages and oversees the Service by ensuring optimal and on-going performance of all Flow Cytometry Laboratory operations and procedures with regulatory compliance, in a fast paced environment. The Director implements the QC/QA program within the laboratory, manage staff, and provide interpretative technical expertise. The Director will work in collaboration with the Medical Directors of Flow Cytometry, and Validations Director in the development and implementation of new assays.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee management of daily operations of the Flow Cytometry Laboratory Service.
Establishes and formulates protocols and manuals for the laboratory.
Responsible for the quality and efficiency of studies performed within the Flow Cytometry Laboratory in accordance with CLIA/CAP/NYSDOH regulations.
Oversees regulatory compliance. Ensures compliance with CAP, NYS, and Joint Commission. Works with the Medical Directors of Flow Cytometry Laboratory to ensure that all testing meets all prescribed requirements of various regulatory standards.
Oversees, plans, and prepares for inspections (CAP, NYS, JACHO).
Oversees the development, performance, and monitoring of Quality Control, Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement procedures.
Support proficiency testing program by coordinating receipt of survey material, analysis, and timely and correct completion of forms.
Maintain open and effective communication with Hematopathologists to address any technical or laboratory issue that may impact reporting of results.
Manage and mentor laboratory staff, including but not limited to, scheduling, assigning responsibilities, performance reviews, training and education of staff. Conduct regular lab meetings with staff to address needs of staff and/or lab and to support a collaborative and positive work environment.
Monitor Flow Cytometry Laboratory work performance to determine staff resource utilization, effective management of workload, efficiency, and equipment maintenance; review monthly work statistics to establish and optimize work performance standards.
Stays up-to-date of new technologies/methodologies/test and suggests implementation of new technology within the laboratory.
Participates in strategic planning for growth of Flow Cytometry Laboratory.
PhD in appropriate field or MD with laboratory experience.
NYS COQs in Cellular Immunology, Malignant Leukocyte Immunophenotyping, and Cellular Immunology, Non-Malignant Immunophenotyping (absolutely required).
Prior experience directing/managing clinical flow cytometry laboratory (5 years).
Experience with different flow cytometer platforms and analysis software.
Experience in panel design and method development of multicolor flow cytometry
Strong planning, organizational and time management skills
Strong problem solving, training, and team building skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
