Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Flow Cytometry Technologist (FCT) to join our laboratory Team to contribute to the diagnosis, treatment, and care of our patients.

The FCT will be responsible for startup of the flow cytometry program, accurately performing flow cytometry analysis, instrument/assay validation, maintenance, quality control, and data analysis.

The ideal candidate should have strong technical expertise in flow cytometry techniques, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, rapidly growing laboratory environment. The candidate must also have strong communication skills, be able to work as part of a Team, and contribute to other laboratory disciplines.

JOB RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Operate and maintain instrument, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure proper instrument calibration and performance.  
  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
  • Prepare biological specimens for analysis and perform routine and complex analysis.
  • Analyze, interpret, and generate comprehensive reports, and present quality management data as needed.
  • Monitors inventory levels, such as consumables, and order materials and supplies in accordance with established SOP’s.
  • Function as a generalist in the Hematology and Blood Bank departments.
  • Performs quality control procedures to ensure the integrity and accuracy of flow cytometry data, including instrument calibration, standardization and proficiency testing.
  • Communicates with medical, clinical, and technical staff within the facility concerning specimen inquiries, problems, and investigations in a timely manner according to established laboratory procedures.
  • Acts as the laboratory liaison for the Stem Cell and Leukemia programs program and collaborate with extradepartmental staff to accomplish common goals.  
  • Performs duties in compliance with laboratory safety and infection control protocols. Maintain a clean and organized work environment.  
  • Functions as a work leader and assists in training and mentoring laboratory staff on flow cytometry techniques and protocols and provides operational support.
  • Acts as the first point of contact for technical and procedural questions, and conducts audits on work quality.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in flow cytometry technology and methodologies and implement them as appropriate.   
  • Develop and optimize flow cytometry protocols and procedures to ensure accurate and reliable results.  
  • May be required to handle blood-borne pathogens and general laboratory reagents; handle live human specimens, tissues, and bodily fluid.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Previous experience working as a Flow Cytometry Technologist in a clinical or research laboratory

Education: Bachelor’s in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Biology, Biotechnology or a related field.

Special Skills: Excellent attention to detail, organization skills and the ability to multitask simultaneously.

Pay Range

$26.95 - $44.34

Placement within the identified pay range is based on individual and market factors including, but not limited to, experience, education, credentials (including licenses and certifications), geographic location, market competition, skill set (including market availability of required skills), assigned/anticipated job tasks, and level of responsibility.  These factors are considered without regard to an individual’s status as a member of any protect group pursuant to federal, state, and/or local law.
